If you're struggling with Information Overwhelm or what you should be focusing your time on in your business to go from hobby to full time career you're not alone.
My first few years of entrepreneurship kinda felt like this daily….
When I first started my business I had no clue I would ever create a seven figure business on the interwebs. I just wanted to make $3000 a month to quit my day job so I had time to figure out how to turn this into a full time income.
I started by subscribing to everyones email list, attending two or three webinars a week and I purchased more products in my first year in business then I care to admit.
Still No Results!
I was very confused as to where I should start first because I was told I should be:
- Doing livestreams
- Posting content on every social media platform.
- Launching my own products
- Doing affiliate marketing
- Building crazy complex sales funnels that make my freak'n head spin.
- And it's a never ending list of things I could be doing.
At one point I decided to stop being a consumer and implement some of the things I was learning. I decided to listen to what I heard Tony Robins say about modeling other peoples businesses.
However there was one big problem I ran into.
I was following a plan(what I thought people were doing), but the the real problem came down to not understanding that each person I was following had a real strategy behind what they did in their business.
I was implementing what I thought they were doing, but nothing was working because I didn't understand how all the pieces fit together to reach my end goal.
Eventually I came to the point that I knew I needed to find someone who could show me exactly what to do, why they do it and someone who actually practices what they preach.
What I learned from finding the right mentor was that it's easier to make One Million dollars online than it is to make your first one thousand.
I struggled hard to make that first 1k by myself, but once I learned how to make 1k it became easier to make 10k, 20k, 50k + a month. It's all about doing more of what works and eliminating the stuff that doesn't.
So if right now you're not making a minimum of $10,000-$20,000 + a month then this post will be helpful to you.
This post will help two types of people:
1.) You're willing and ready to apply yourself to create a profitable business, but just not sure where to start.
2.) You've attempted to implement things people tell you to do, but something seems to be missing and you're looking for a real strategy to implement to get results now, not 6 months from now.
My goal with this post is to help you accomplish two things:
1.) Get clarity and confidence in your abilities to become a top earner online in your niche industry.
2.) Understand what you need to focus on if you want to create a real breakthrough in your business that allows your business to grow month after month.
Creating a successful business comes down to 7 things:
1.) Build A Leveraged Asset
There is one thing I would put 99% of your focus on in business if you want to make a full time income sooner than later….
Focus everything you have on building your email list. Building an email list has allowed me to literally print money on demand.
When I got a $75k tax bill I literally sent an offer to my email list —- Problem solved!
I challenge you right now to look at any big marketer online who is dominating their space and I guarantee they're building their email list.
Everyday my #1 focus is to build my email list and build a stronger relationship with those people. Most people don't buy right away and if you're not capturing peoples emails to followup with them you're burning money.
The bigger my list gets the more money I make every single month. Focus on building your email list regardless if you're doing free traffic or paid. It will be the difference between making a little money or a lot.
It's allowed me to win vacations, computers, dominate affiliate leaderboards and create true time and financial freedom.
Building an email list is kinda like owning a Starbucks franchise.
What do you do if you want to sell more coffee and you're Starbucks?
You setup another Starbucks store down the street so you can sell more coffee.
Online if you want to sell more of your product or someone else's product you build an email list(your distribution channel).
With a push of a button you can send an offer to your email list and have money. There is no better business model online and I truly believe anyone can make this business model successful.
2. Focus On IPA's
Everyday you have a million different things you “COULD” be doing, but the answer isn't about adding more things to your plate. The real answer is to focus only on the few things that matter and to eliminate busy work.
After doing hundred's of webinars and phone consultations I've found that most people are confused as to what they should be doing because of this…
If you jump on Facebook or Instagram you will see endless ads with new systems and marketers telling you if you don't do something their way or you don't jump on this new method right now your business will perish.
These types of people are keeping you stuck and I would suggest you give them a swift punch in the face.
If you're just starting out and haven't gotten traction in your business I can see how this all can be confusing and you're hoping just one method will work.
Believe it or not when I did $500,000 in my business in one year I was still what I would call a “opportunity seeker”. I still thought I was missing something and I needed to buy another course or join a new program to give me something I was missing.
Eventually my mentor helped me focus on what truly matters “Income Producing Activities”.
Almost every business online will thrive or die based on their ability to generate a fresh new supply of leads(people to see your offer).
You see… without new people being exposed to your business you make no money. Most people are spending their time on things that don't help them get closer to their goal(making a sale).
Most people spend their time on things like this:
- Writing a blog post, shooting a video or creating social media content.
- Designing a landing page or making their website pretty.
- Going to an event, studying a course or getting coaching.
- Spending hours on social media digesting peoples content.
None of those things will make you money!
It feels good because you checked off things on your to do list and it makes you feel productive, but it's not what will actually put money in your bank account.
You need to spend 10% of your time on the above things and focus 90% of your time on Income Producing Activities.
This is what will help you go from 0 to 100 real quick:
- Promoting that blog post or content piece to get leads onto your email list.
- Generating traffic(people) to that landing page to capture leads or to make a sale.
- Taking action on what you just learned to get leads or sales.
- Creating your own content on social media and guiding people to join your email list or attend your webinar.
Do you see how small tweaks in what you may be currently doing can shift you from being a consumer to a producer.
This is the difference between the 95% who never make money and the 5% who dominate everything they touch.
3.) Build “You Inc.”
One of the biggest mistakes I see people doing online is just focusing on making a sale.
Now hear me out…
I know I just said you need to be focusing on getting leads and making sales, but I have a “STRATEGY” behind my madness.
I cut my marketing chops in the direct sales space years ago. I thankfully was smart enough to know that the product I'm promoting today might not be the product i'm promoting three years down the line.
So from day one I started focusing on branding myself as the expert in my space. I focused on branding everything I do with that big cheesy smile you see on the sidebar of this blog.
I teach every coaching student I work with to do the same.
Everything you do online should be to build your personal brand not a product, company or whatever you're currently selling.
This applies if you're selling your own products or services or you're a network marketer or affiliate for someone else's product.
This gives you room to grow into many different income streams in the future if you want to ever change directions.
When Hannah started with me she was doing Network Marketing, but she wasn't very passionate about promoting other peoples products and she wanted to create her own training and coaching programs.
Since she branded herself from day one like I taught her she was able to literally announce to her following that she was changing directions and she made her first sale of a $2000 program and then another $1000 sale for a service she offered in a matter of weeks.
The point here is to focus on branding yourself from day one.
Your business model is completely irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that you create a personal brand.
When you do this people will buy what you're selling because they love you and you will create loyal customers that will follow you for years.
By creating a personal brand it's allowed me to pursue many different business models like direct sales, affiliate marketing, product launches, coaching and consulting and it's even gotten me speaking gigs which I never could have imagined when I started online years ago.
4.) Become A Valuable Person
This may seem obvious, but if you expect to make money on the interwebs you're going to need to have a real reason why people should listen to you, trust you and buy from you.
Don't let this freak you out, it's easier than you think. A few years ago I was literally a digital nobody.
I didn't know even a 1/4th of what I know today.
I literally just spent time learning skills I knew people wanted to learn and shared tips without expecting anything in return.
By doing this people started subscribing to my email list and when I would make recommendations for products a handful of people would buy.
My very first webinar I was terrified because I didn't even know how to properly pitch a product. Once the webinar was over I tried to jump off the webinar fast and people asked me how they could work with me. I made my first sales on a webinar not even knowing how to do it properly.
Most people overcomplicate things and they tell themselves they're not smart enough or that they don't have enough knowledge and never get started.
When people tell me this I always refer to the movie “Catch Me If You Can” with Leonardo Decaprio.
In the movie the teacher doesn't show up and Leonardo's plays a character named Frank in the movie. Frank gets up and walks to the front of the class and starts teaching the students.
When someone asks him how he knew how to teach the class he responds with….
“Simple, I just read one chapter ahead in the book”.
If right now you're telling yourself that you have no value to offer realize you can get started by just knowing enough to guide people in the right direction.
Get started right now right where you're.
With time and a focus on learning more you will have more value to offer your customers. Don't let a lack of knowing everything stop you from getting started.
5.) Create A Simple Sales Funnel
Right now everyone and their mom is a professional sales funnel builder because they bought Clickfunnels and built a few funnels.
I've seen more ads then I can count with marketers who will sell you a high converting sales funnel that cost $10k +, but when I go through their funnels they're not even implementing what they're selling.
Here is a secret….
(by the way I hate the word secret because every marketer has one)
This industry is designed to make you feel stupid, frustrated and confused. The more you think you're doing something wrong or the more emotional you get the easier it is to sell you the newest thing they're trying to sell.
Ready for my super complicated sales funnel that made me seven figures?
This sales funnel is so simple anyone could set everything up and be driving traffic and making sales within a week.
If you like complicated then by all means don't let me stop you, but I would highly suggest to simplify everything you do in your business until you master the basics.
I setup my sales funnels to do the opposite of what everyone else does:
1.) I send all traffic(people) to a one page website or my blog to collect their email.
Remember everything should be focused on building your email list.
2.) When someone subscribes I don't hit them with a pitch for a product. I introduce myself and let them know what to expect.
Once they subscribe they see a simple video from myself and my trusty sidekick Athena just saying hi and inviting them to join my Facebook Group.
3.) I pour on the value for several days showing them how I can help them by actually helping them first.
4.) Then I make offers strategically throughout the process.
5.) If people don't make a purchase they don't hate me and they actually still open my emails and want to keep hearing from me.
Most peoples only purpose for setting up a sales funnel is to make a sale. My purpose is to build goodwill first and sell second.
Some people just aren't ready to buy right away and if you hammer them hard with endless pitches you will have a hard time ever building enough trust for them to make a purchase.
When I go through the average persons sales funnel I feel like I need to take a guru bubble bath and cleanse myself of the horrible experience I just went through.
The number one best selling tactic…..
Isn't a tactic at all.
Building trust with your potential prospect is the most important element to making a sale. No slick sales tactic will ever trump building trust so they feel comfortable buying from you.
6.) Have A Deep Funnel
Do you know what the one thing you can do to change the dynamics of your business and allow you to grow fast?
Add a big ticket product to your arsenal of products you sell or recommend.
If right now you're struggling to break $5k a month this be the reason.
Over the years of surveying my audience i've found most people say they want to make $10,000 a month.
The problem is that they never even sat down and mapped out how many products they need to sell in order to reach that goal.
If you're selling only low ticket products it will take a lot of website traffic to reach that goal.
If you want to make $10,000 a month it's as simple as selling 10 people a $1000 product to reach your goal.
This took a major mindset shift for me to wrap my head around because when I started in business I was broke and I bought cheap $7 products so I assumed everyone does this too.
Boy was I wrong!
By adding a big ticket product in my business my income went from struggling to break $3000 to $5000 a month to $40k a month + almost overnight.
Now obviously for some industries big ticket may only be $100, but the point is that you should be looking into adding bigger priced products and services in your business.
There will always be people that want more and by not offering it you're really effecting your ability to grow a big business.
Remember this…. 80% of your income will come from 20% of your customers.
The 20% will spend more money than 80% of your customers.
Something to think about 🙂
7.) Create A Strategy
Now this is one of the most important steps.
If you don't create a strategy you follow daily you're planning to fail.
Let's define what a strategy is:
1.) A strategy is a system you follow daily without thinking.
2.) A strategy is something that prevents you from wasting time.
3.) A strategy answers the questions of “what do I do?”
4.) A strategy can be tracked, measured, and tweaked to ensure you hit your goal.
5.) A strategy is your GPS to always keep you on the correct path when you get off course just like an airplane.
I literally have a strategy for everything I do in my business or my personal life.
I have a strategy for the gym and eating healthy.
I have a strategy for my business I follow daily to keep on track.
You see… there is nothing I do without a real reason and strategy as to why I'm doing it.
If you're in a job and trying to balance building your business then having a strategy you implement daily without thinking is absolutely crucial to your success.
This will save you from procrastination.
This will keep you on track and focusing on income producing activities.
This will take the guess work out of “what should I do to grow my business today?”.
